More on Angkor Wat...
More around Siem Reap...
Moving on, we explored a few other temples around Siem Reap; the journey took quite a while from one ruin to the other. While admiring the scenery within the vicinity... Sit tight while I take you for another rough n bumpy ride!
Outside one of the temples, one child approached me to buy some postcards or handmade bangles (can't remember clearly) but as I have bought some postcards earlier on, I nicey turned her down. After which I opened one packet of sweets and gave her 2. It did not take more than a second or 2 before i was surrounded by more and more children. I was a little caught off guard by that sudden action. However, that was what i wanted to do as i were to distribute the sweets sooner or later. Thus the next thing was that I felt I could not tear open the packets; one packet after the next fast enough to distribute to them.
It seemed that I could not really see their faces except for their little palms raised up with their little 'gimme, gimme, gimme'. As I was distributing the pocky sticks coated with chocolate, a few dropped onto the ground. And 2 or 3 children actually bent down to pick them up to eat. I could not bend down fast enough to stop them from doing so as i was surrounded. In no time, i had run out of titbits for them. A small boy who was crying got a bar of chocolate from me and I gestured to an smiling lady standing amongst the children to share that bar so that at least a few more children will get something to eat. I hope she had done that. I was really afraid that any child would end up in a tussle for the titbits. That will make me feel really bad. My heart really went out to these children =(
After viewing the ancient ruins, we proceeded on about an hour and half journey to Tonle Sap at which we purchased a boat ride to view the villages located at a further end of the lake. A worthwhile trip indeed to embark on this journey.
