Reached Udipi the previous night quite late and called it a night, I was quite tired. But I was happy to be here, as this is a place that any Hindu would want to visit, it is after all, THE place of Lord Krishna. Udupi is known for the Krishna Mutt (Temple of Lord Krishna) and also native place of the Vaishnavite saint Shri Madhvacharya who founded the Krishna Mutt in the 13th century. More can be read about the history about this place at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Udipi.
It was about 9a, and before heading into the temple, I had b'fast at the legendary Mitra Samaj, home of Udipi's first masala dosa. A speciality of this place is a special type of sweet potato and banana based bun served with coconut chutney, quite an interesting combination I thought, if not the tastiest.
From here, went to the Sri Krishna Mutt. We knew some of the priests so they gave us a special tour/'darshan' of God (Lord Krishna). I was quite surprised about how many posters were asking patrons for money/donations and even when you talked to the priests and told them you're from America, they'd be like "oh did you know we feed the hungry kids, u can help our cause too..." blah blah. I found it a bit irritating. I'm all for donating to charity, but hate it when priests do the job, let the temple clerk take care of that!
Anyway got done around noon and left for a special pooja (Prayer) at nearby Kundapura.
I know the cow is our holy animal, certainly Lord Krishna's but what really annoys me is how they allow for cows to sh*t all over town and not do a thing about it, and cry on about being a "holy place". It's kind of annoying having to walk barefoot between most of the temples and yet be so careful about what you might stamp on.
