Eric and Katie goofing off at entrance to monorail Tokyo Disney Sea 2008
Earlier this summer we went on our first family vacation. Eric, my husband, has been deployed so muah that he was never home for more than a month at a time for our first year and a half in Japan. So we packed our bags and went to Disney. We all had a great time, but wished we had more time, since one day is never enough to see all the sites or ride all the rides at Disney Sea. Some rides were too big or fast for Katie (3 years old) and Alex (5 years old), so Eric and I swapped off watching the kids for those. The Journey to the Center of the Earth ride is spectacular at night. And yes I was the typical American coaster junkie sitting alone in the back of the car screaming with delight, while the Japnese around me were either silent or screaming in fear or suprise. Eric and the kids stuck to mostly standard (ie. recognizable) food at the restuarants, I am still craving another Daikon and Jellyfish salad. We had tons of fun, but never saw Mickey except at one of the major shows. Alex and Katie were rather upset at not seeing Mickey the whole time they were there. as we were leaving Katie got a set of Marie ears, Alex got Mickey ears, and I got a set of Stitch ears (yeah I love Stitch). Eric just laughed and shook his head. On the train rides back to the hotel he had fun watching the Japanese stare at my Stitch ears. All in all we had a great time sharing the magic of Disney with our kids.
