We passed the Tower of Terror in DCA as we neared the Portofino. Janie and Neal had already spent a night there, so we did not have issues with finding the hotel. Neal parked and we used the elevator to reach the fourth floor. Once in the hallway, we had no trouble locating the room. Today was Tommy’s birthday and Janie had put a Happy Birthday sign on the door. Inside we found balloons, streamers, and peanut butter chocolate cheesecake! We sang Happy Birthday (sans lit candles since hotel rooms can be a little sensitive to smoke). Tommy opened his present and we enjoyed the very rich Cheesecake Factory dessert. Tommy was excited about his realization that thanks to the time change, his birthday actually lasted three extra hous. We also got the chance to check out our race bags since Janie had braved the packet pick-up all by herself earlier in the day. It was a huge relief to have our bibs in hand already. Then we turned in for the night, Janie and Neal in the bed, Tommy on the pull-out couch, and Megan and me in the bunk bed (I got the top).
