The Gas Lamp District

Though I only had 1 day to see San Diego, it didn't take long to see what a neat city it is. Flying into San Diego you get to see all of the Navy ships lined up at port, which is truly amazing. Like all California cities, the houses in San Diego are stacked on top of each other. But unlike LA, SD is much cleaner and has the true beach town feel to it. The heart of downtown is home of the Gas Lamp quarter, which reminds me a lot of the French Quarter in New Orleans. While I have a deep connection to NOLA and the Quarter, the Gas Lamp district is bigger, has better shops, and is much cleaner. Even though there are ton of nice restaurants throughout the Gas Lamp, the food is nowhere close to what you'll find in NOLA. For being a large CA city, traffic was nothing near what I expected. With beautiful weather year round, residents take advantage of this pedestrian friendly city as well as use the trolley lines. For anyone who has never been, I would definitely recommend San Diego and its peninsula of Coronado (home of the Hotel Del Coronado) for a relaxing and fun vacation.
