Making a run for the border
We continued on to Tucson, and just before we arrived, we received the missing piece of information we needed to ensure a smooth check-in...the name the reservations are under!
Arriving in Tucson, it took us a while to find the hotel, as I-10 is closed throughout basically the entire metro-Tucson area! After a few circles trying to understand the printed directions, we saw the telltale logo-sign of Hampton Inn and soon were standing in the lobby of our hotel. Ok, so it may have seemed closer to Phoenix than the locations for the Tucson meet-up, but hey, Adrian did a great job hooking us up!
We are checking in, and for the first time in the US, I'm asked for my passport to check in! Well, ok, wrong passport, they were looking for something else, but we managed to get through the check-in process and head upstairs to clean up and change for dinner.
Just around the time we're supposed to arrive, we get a call from Harriet asking if we're here yet, but we're running a few minutes late and tell her we'll be there soon. We finish up our preparations and hop in the car and off we go on a run for the border...On the Border in fact for a Mexican dinner.
After only one wrong turn, we find the restaurant and walk through looking for Harriet and the gang. Hm...no one looks familiar! Give her a call, and it turns out that she is running a little later as we wouldn't be there yet, so we check with the desk and our table is ready, and there are two people already there! Krysta and Nate from Phoenix have already arrived, and are sitting there at the table, all alone, 20 minutes after dinner was supposed to start.
I wonder what was crossing their mind! Luckily, the table wasn't ready when they had arrived, so they had just sat down, and were presented with two very large (and rather good) complmentary appetizer platters for the wait!More people started to arrive, it it quickly became evident that there was not enough room at the table for the whole group, so we were moved to the other room where an even bigger table was made available for the ever expanding group! All told, we had twelve people for dinner on the first night...Me, Erin, Melanie, Melissa, Nate, Krysta, Harriet, Roselle, Dan, Tim, Keith and Deema!
After dinner, another early night for tonorrow's action packed Meet-up Day!
