A Gorgeous Day in El Bolson!

El Bolson Travel Blog › entry 38 of 71 › view all entries

Over the next 2 months, I will explore the southern part of South America, traveling by plane, train, boat, bike, bus, and foot. I will wine-taste in Chile, hike through Patagonia, party on NYE in Rio, and recover on the beach in Uruguay. I will begin and end my trip in Panama where my uncle lives. I don't know what to expect, except that it will be one hell of an adventure. Whatever happens, I'm truly thankful to have this opportunity to see more of the fascinating world we live in.

A Gorgeous Day in El Bolson!

Friends along shore of Lago Puelo

Today I had planned on doing a lot of internet catchup.  But when I woke up, the sun was shining and the sky was blue.  I couldn´t stay inside all day.

A couple groups from the hostel were doing a day trip to nearby Lago Puelo for a hike around the lake or just to lounge.  That sounded cool to me so after I did an hour of internet in the morning, I hopped on the noon bus out to the lake.  Marieke and Dayenne were also on that bus, continuing to follow me I guess.  =)

Once we arrived at the lake - well, the town next to the lake - we had to walk down a dirt road, pay an entry fee, and then walk a bit more to the shore.  There, we took a few photos together - along with some friends the girls made on the bus.

The scene was totally awesome.  Big mountains. Blue water.  Wind.  Lots of wind.  I practiced a few jumping pictures, leaping from the small dock into the frigid lake water.  Cold but refreshing.

Then we split ways.  I walked along the shore for a bit, then headed up to a local cafeteria where I picked up a coffee and sandwich for a picnic along the shore.  Upon entering the cafeteria, lo and behold, there were Marieke and Dayenne again!  Ha.

After my picnic, I headed back the hostel early - showered - and hit the internet cafe again.  I left a note for Marieke and Dayenne on their door (a trend that will continue the next few days), inviting them and anyone else to dinner that evening.  Long story short, they ended up meeting me around 10pm and we chose to eat (again) at Juaja Restaurant.  A bit later Florencia and Judith (also from the hostel) also joined us - for ice cream only in their case, since they had already eaten dinner.

Afterward, we headed back to the Boulevard for a drink.  But we were all pretty tired and called it an early night.

(Sorry this is boring....it´s Dec 23 right now and I´m trying to catch up the blog.  When I have more time I´ll post some more pictures, too.  And videos - which are now becoming a favorite activity of mine.)
