Bus to the Great Wall

After breakfast took a subway then bus 5 thinking it would take us to the Great Wall. We were confused when the driver motioned us to exit the bus. We got out and tried to figure out where we were. Monica approached a Rumanian lady that was looking a bit lost. We discovered that she was searching for bus 919 which she had been told would take her to the wall. We helped her search, and eventually found a slew of busses 919, and a queues of people. We joined the queue and soon found ourselves on the road out of town. We arrived at Badaling Great Wall site at 11:40, and bought our tickets - including a round trip on the toboggan.  We walked back up the hill, past the vendors selling anything they could at 10 times the price, past the black bears that were catching in their mouth the slices of apple that the tourists were throwing them, and past the toboggan. We realized our mistake and back tracked to the line for the toboggan train that takes much of the climbing out of a visit to this section of the wall.

Don't feed the bears...NOT

We took the toboggan up the hill to the Great Wall. Once at the top we found a comfy spot away from the crowd, took some great pictures, had a snack, and enjoyed the view. The temperature was ideal . After s stroll along the wall we slid back down on the trolley and boarded another bus 919 back to Beijing.

From where the bus stopped, we walked east and found the subway line 1. We took it back downtown and found a place to eat. It was kind of a Japanese style where they cook your meal in front of you on a hot table ; we order pepper chicken and ‘constitutional’ fried rice it was delicious!!!!

We were still hungry, so after that we moved to a stall with a selection of raw vegetables on sticks, and unidentifiable meets and meatballs on sticks as well as mushrooms etc.

all on sticks.  We selected  4 or 5 of the things and put them in a basket which we handed to the cook. She cooked it all up in a broth with some noodles. They had a few different sauces so we ask for 4 extra bowls to try the different flavors ;  vinegar, sesame seed, chili,  and garlic.

We walked back to the subway; visited the internet cafe again and then back to the hotel. To prepare for an early start tomorrow……
