We arrived at terminal 3 in Beijing at 2:40 pm. Fancy terminal. It must be designed to make you feel that China is overwhelmingly big. We asked around for directions, picked up some maps for the city and the subway, and then took a shuttle bus downtown to Fangzhuang - " only 16 RMB each!. From there we waved down a taxi and very shortly Monica was lucky to spot the hotel on the other side of the street. Good thing she did, because the taxi driver did not seem to have a clue. We directed him back from his wonderings down side roads and made it to the hotel.
We check in at the Green Tree on ring road 3. We were surprised to see an American flag out front and a California King Noodle shop next door. Were we in the right city? We walked around the corner and found a good restaurant. Wilson order a Tsingtao beer and a dish by looking at the picture on the menu, Szechuan noodles, but when the came he was surprised. The noodles were clear and about 4 inches long and 1 inch wide, and thick. Weirder yet, they were cold.… The shrimps Monica spotted on her clandestine walk around the tables looked good, So we placed a order by pointing and pantomime. They turned out to be delicious - "we ate them heads legs and shell.….good service and nice people. We vowed to return.
