Oberammergau
We've travelled through Germany and stopped 2 days near München to visit a few places like Oberammergau.
Oberammergau is known for it's Passion Play. Here's a little information about it:
The Passion and the Passion theater. A game of death and life, promised at a time when the threat of death was close • this is the beginning for the story of Passion Play of Oberammergau in 1633. In the middle of the Thirty Years` War, after lasting suffering and dying by pestilence for month, the population of Oberammergau was vowed to perform every ten years the “game of suffering, dying and revival of our lord Jesus Christ”. On Pentecost 1634 for the first time they fulfilled the promise on a stage, which was pitched at the cemetery • directly above the fresh graves of the victims of plague.
For further information you can check the site: www.ammergauer-alpen.de.
You can also do a guided tour through the Passion theater.
If you want to see the play one time, in 2010 is the next one (see the site).
