The first skyscraper was the 'Messeturm', nicknamed 'Bleistift' (pencil, because of its shape) and it was the tallest building in Europe until the Commerzabank Tower was built, also in Frankfurt. The 'Messeturm' is maybe the most important landmark in Frankfurt, but it has since been joined by several more and because Frankfurt is an important financial centre it seems that a few more banks will be building big towers soon. One of those planned already is the new ECB (European Central Bank) tower. Most of them are not open to the public, but you can go up the Main Tower ('Main' because of the river, not because it's the most important one ;-) ), from where you have a nice view over pretty much the entire city and the villages in the surrounding hills.
