The Königsbrünnchen in Frankfurt's city forest

Frankfurt am Main Travel Blog › entry 4 of 13 › view all entries

Most people who come to Frankfurt only have a few hours between flights, maybe a day or two. But few have the chance to actually really see any of it, and it is maybe not the highest priority anyway. But I loved living there and this guide is for anyone who might want some ideas about what to do during the stop-over. I'll keep adding to it for a while, so check back :)

The Königsbrünnchen in Frankfurt's city forest

The Königsbrünnchen is a natural spring in Frankfurt's city forest. Although it may not be an actual sight it's nice to have a quick stop there and refresh if you happen to be visiting the forest. Its water is very rich in iron, so the rocks are rusty-coloured and you can smell the spring from a bit further away. The taste is something that some people will need some time to get used to, but the main attraction about it is maybe that Goethe, one of Germany's biggest names in poetry and writing, used to stop for a drink there. So as far as I am concerned, if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me :)
