The Angkor Poster
As last year and the year before, I asked the owner of the Te Lee Hong restaurant how much she wanted for the red Angkor Beer poster hanging on one of the stained walls. It was actually more a banner than poster - made of a sturdy plastic-like fabric. It measured about four feet high and one and a half feet wide and hung from a plastic tube framework. The dusty treasure would roll up perfectly into my daypack.
Of all the Angkor promotional signs and posters, that one was best. It was a simple design - an enlarged photograph of an Angkor beer bottle. Khmer lettering scrolled and squiggled across the top. Below that, in smaller English lettering, the brand's logo ' My Country My Beer' appeared in white. To my surprise she removed it from the wall, wiped years-old dust off of it, rolled it up, and handed it to me - free of charge.
