Backpacking Trip: My third trip to Germany and Holland, my second time this year. I went alone but I was never really alone, i learned alot about myself and can now check mark 'backpacking solo' off my list of things i would never do.. but did

Aggravations = Holiday Spirit

my cellphone/mobile is not making the calls i need!!!! i had a misshap saturday trying to contact my friend in Bonn!! I F*cked up and did not change the number and add 00 to dial and i ended up being all late!!

It took me an hour to figure out where i needed to go to buy my ticket to Bonn and waited 2 and half hours in the cold, freezing. Im backpacking....arghhhhh

Anyways the hotel i checked into was helpful and told me to try dialing the 00 and i got through, even though i had been trying to call since i arrives, of course Sonja did not hear her phone...But we went to a cafe and and caught up with what had been going on in our lives since my last visit over 15 months ago..I got to a Christmas Market and tried Glüewine, it was great, hot while the temps were Minus 1 celcius : )

i arrived in Köln yesterday and it has not been enjoyable, the weather put a damper on my spirits : ( I could not check into my hostel for another 2 hours so I walked the city of Köln the whole 2 hours in flats. WALKING as the locals do, window shopping,etc.

My biggest accomplishments is that my budget is right on target, i have a goal of spending less than 100€ a day and my overgoal is 700€. If i can do that, i will be verrrrryyy happy.

I plan on staying in Utrecht til wednesday and take a train to Delft, hopefully my spirits will be better.

HOLIDAY SPIRIT...

There are manz reasons why i am here, to help me with my story writing ideas, to get away from west virginia, i have an adventuorous spirit..but most important i can say that I see a LOST holiday spirit here that i dont see anymore in my 6 years of traveling all over the U.S. To me everything is commercial. I dont have that family get to gethers anymore during the holidays and whenever there is a gettogether...i get annoyed either with one family member of something and ... i appreciate the time <i have with family. There are my rock! but here, i envy so much the holiday spirit as i walked around the christmas market in Köln. It was a good feeling, something i havent felt in a long time.

So, as I am not spending or celebrating a Thanksgiving home with family, I will make up for it in 3 weeks when i am back home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. And even if it is me that WONT sing christmas songs, or not the one drinking eggnog (unless with Captain Morgan ) I will say my silent blessings and i know that I am alive with people i love. That to me is the holiday spirits

Next i write from the Netherlands...
