hiked to the key summit in the routeburn track, up to a big lookout.
...a REALLY big lookout. the hike was UP hill the ENTIRE way!
bumped into the israelis from the glacier hike. oh new zealand.
lunch at the summit, overlooking valleys and mountains and glaciers and lakes and mist and sunshine.
short bush walk at the top, learned about some boring plant stuff.
i mean, some very exciting natural educational stuff.
some guy ran by us on our way DOWN the mountain.
as we were pulling out much later, he was hitchhiking at the side of the road!
we picked him up (what goes around...) and he was just as smelly as we were! no, worse.
he ran the routeburn in 3 or 4 hours!!
we dropped him off in te anau, and then....decided to drive across the country again!
headed out for dunedin!
the eastern part of NZ looks much like the gorgeous farm land in the states...rolling hills, filled with cows and sheep.
got to dunedin around sunset, walked around the octagon, saw lots of pubs, decided to find a beach to sleep at.
parked at hoon central, st. kilde beach.

MAKARORA!!! going stir crazy in the car and making up songs with jamie has been one of my favorite things so far :)
