discovered penguin colonies! wooo!
walked around historic oamaru - what a cute little town! teeny little old shops, an honesty baker (where you take break and slide money through a slot in a door), a closed organ shop, and lots of big, empty warehouse-looking things.
went to the whiskey mill for morning tea, of course.
we were greeted with a glass of port, and then we walked around the warehouse, looking at the whiskey store room and then the awesome art gallery upstairs.
came back downstairs for tea (some delicious truffle chocolate flavored black tea) and devonshire scone with cream and jam - mMmMmm!
topped it off with NZ's very own limoncello. all in all, a perfect morning snack :-D
on to twizel, which is really.
OH! and super fresh raw salmon. we ate a ton of it, and bought even more to take on a picnic.
drove up to mt. cook alongside some of the most amazing water ever! opaque turquoise water. ahhh!
dinner at the base of mt. cook - rippon riesling, herb focaccia from oamaru, oil, balsamic vinegar from the fancy apothecary shop in christchurch, and the freshest most delicious smoked salmon from the roadside salmon farm in twizel. mmm!
after-dinner hike to an iceberg lake.
we climbed up a scree slope and played with rocks. then slid back down :)
on the drive away from mt cook, there were adorable bunnies hopping all over the place!
slept at a picnic spot alongside the road (not near a beach :().
...amidst tons of other campervans, of course.
