Gent, Ghent, Gand

I like this place a lot. People are friendly and it's a pretty city. Stayed in an old monastery -( http://www.monasterium.be ) Off to Amsterdam next.

There was some kind of music festival on when I was there, which would explain why all the hostels were taken up. Though this turned out to be a good thing, as I discovered the Monasterium hotel. My room sign had the name of the bishop who used to live in it!

Make sure you locate the bar where you are required to hand over a shoe, in exchange for a special beer glass.

Yes, must try that next time - buy some really cheap shoes first!

I know there is a bar in Adelaide where you leave a shoe for the glass. Surely if you like the glass that much you would give them a shoe that you no longer wanted! :0
