lauro's sense of the glacier.
December 6, 2006
south of innsbruck and just direct from the italian border of the alps is the stubaier range and glacier. as me and my friend drove to the town of ranalt, i felt a little embarassed, because most of the people driving there are skiiers and with them skiing gears. i am little self conscious about it, because we have absolutely nothing to do with skiing hehehe.
in ranalt, which is about 1,500 meters already. we must take a cable car ride until the highest point of about 3,400 meters. but, the man behind the counter said that we dont have any skiing gears, the highest point could only be accessed with skis. we can go up at about 2,900 meters. but there was stop at the middle station at about 2,200 meters. we can walk around with trekking boots.
it doenst matter! i was super excited! it costs about 25 euros per person to go up and its a whole day valid. but i tell you, the cable car ride is damn scary, because super strong winds swayed the cable car like a rocking chair.
the stubaier glacier and lurking behind is the highest mountain in the stubaier alps - mt. zuckerhütl.
it was breathtaking at the top, but it was a little bit cloudy and i know that its gonna snow and that would be nice coz the whole range would be enveloped with snow and what an exhilirating feeling it was when it snowed! i love snowflakes! i opened my mouth and let them inside!
as it was snowing lots outside, my friend and me got hungry and went inside the resort's restaurant... man... it was really PRICEY inside... one small spagetthi bolognese cost 7 euros and the size is only for a child :D and it.. was not really good .. yuck is the word i can say :) but that didnt dampened my spirits. as soon as the light snow storm was gone, we immediately got out and took fotos, i was so at awe, and i felt lucky about it, because of the global warming and climate change, glaciers in the world are retreating, before they can be recorded as only an annal in history, i had been lucky to step into one of natures beautiful artwork - the source of life for the ground below.
