The world famous Raffles Hotel, birthplace of the Singapore Sling cocktail

A nice early flight from Penang meant I arrived in Singapore at about lunchtime and with 12 hours to kill before my onward journey to Oz.  The airport in Singapore offers a free tour of the city if you're on a long stopover so I decided to do that.  We took in several of the main sights including the Singapore Flyer which is like the London Eye, but about 35m higher.  Also stopped off at Raffles Hotel, birthplace of the famous Singapore Sling cocktail.  I wasn't able to have one there as there was a wedding on at the time, but I grabbed one later whilst on the plane to Adelaide.

Singapore is a very clean place.  So clean that I saw a cleaner scraping the floor in the airport with a small tool to make sure there was absolutely no dirt there at all - a bit extreme I think!  When we were on our way back to the city there was a huge storm (seem to have a lot of those on my trip don't I!) and torrential rain.  I was a bit worried I'd have to take off in that, but fortunately it has now passed so will be fine by the time we got up in the air.  The airport here is lovely and perfectly set up for people with long stop overs.  You can have a shower or even book a few hours in a hotel within the departures area to make sure you get some sleep.  Whilst I was sat in the lounge I saw one of the new Airbus A380 planes and they are HUGE!  How on earth that thing gets off the ground I have no idea.  I want to go on one!

So onward and upward to Adelaide now and hopefully the heat won't be quite as humid as it is over here.  Now where did I put that suntan lotion?
