Fri Dec 12th - We packed our bags and jumped on a bus heading up the coast. The weather had got really muggy and it was threatening to rain. The bus was crazy packed full of tourists, which was wierd as we had hardly seen any other Westerners so far on our trip.
We then took a ferry across to Ihla Grande, which is the biggest island in Brazil. We got chatting to an English girl on the boat who was living in Argentina and travelling with a bunch of guys from there. We decided that we might like to spend christmas and maybe new year in Buenos Aires.
When we got there we decided to stay in a hostel for the first time, but in a private room. The hostel was right on the beach and the view from our window was amazing. Right outside was the sea with loads of boats and other smaller islands.
We hung out in the hostel bar all night and got talking to loads of people. They had a sun terrace going out over the sea and they had organised a BBQ night. It was really good fun.
There were no cars on the island and the only way to get to all the different beaches was by trecking on paths cut out through the jungle. This was pretty hard work, but fun.
Over the next few days we hung out on the island and met some really nice people. There was a crazy Canadian girl called Marloe and a scouser, Martin. We had a couple of nights partying with them.
Even though the weather was still not great we went trecking across to the other side of the island and found a beautiful beach called Lopez Mendez. It had beautiful white sand as far as the eye could see and really strong surf.
