down to dirty south!
April 17, 2009
so were headed to my house in las piƱas, a city within the capital of metro manila in the philippines! it has a reputation called the dirty south. i dont know why, but its the most cleanest and greenest city in the metro! hahaha.
when we arrived at the house, the dogs martina and dexter started barking at poor ben! hahaha. i turned the airconditioner on, because the heat was really stiffling, and i asked my cousins shine and jeffrey to arrange the bed for ben, just a simple cot, but with my father's old persian blankets to keep him comfortable.
after ben got settled, we went to the grocery, which is not far from where i live but we have to take a tricycle, a mode of transportation used inside the small subdivisions and villages in the philippines. well i could easily have a private transportation with cars/vans etc. but i wanted ben to feel the culture already on the first day and i like traveling around with public transportation rather than cars, because the adventure is there, its like a film moving and playing in front of my eyes! hahahaha.
ben was wide-eyed, excited and basically squirming with delight as he rode the tricycle! hahaha it was his first time and i could tell he was loving every minute of it!
in the grocery store, we fooled alot and of course all the people were looking at him, i mean, theres a guy with a white butt shopping around for food! hahaha. then we met one of my favorite aunts in the grocery store! and she was one of the loudest aunts i had and it was pretty embarassing with the tone of our voices but who cares?! hahaha.
after i sent my aunt away hahaha, we continued buying food. we just bought canned good, sausages, spreads, bread and chinese ham. as i dont have any energy to cook with the hot weather! its almost unbearable!
so i decided to take a swim at the pool for hire near my house. after weve eaten and done grocery, we went there. there werent any doorbell, so i just shouted the name of the owner of the pool, it didnt helped with the fucking dog inside the house barking all the time! hahahahah.
after 15 minutes of knocking for nothing, we went back to the house, and we decided to walk around the little neighborhood. we found a streetfood stand which is owned by a friend and ordered a filipino snack in the afternoon (merienda) which is halo-halo, it is crushed ice mixed with different sweets like sweet beans, purple taro, condensed milk, sweet potato, dried rice crisps, taro balls etc!
ben liked the halo-halo, it is so refreshing for the stiffling heat of the afternoon.
after walking in the neighborhood, jetlag finally settled in! but we were still hyper so we changed clothes, because i decided to bring him to my favorite mall!
