Snaefellsnes
On our third day in iceland we made a trip around Snaefellsnes. This is a peninsula with an vulcano on it. There are just a few cottages on it and the rest is only nature. green fields with lava on it. Rugged mountains, snowfields and on it`s end a nice little kaffihuis.
On the way back we saw lots of waterfalls and craters. Unfortunately the vulcano was hidden behind cloudes.
As, we had still time left when we were back at Borgarnes we drove further on to the Hraunfossar. This are kind of waterfalls but it looks like the water just comes out of the earth. As always it was really windy and as we drove on we came to Snorrys pool. I`s a hot pot how belonged to a men who was very imporend in the history of iceland. - But it was prohibited to jump in it:-(
Gullfoss - Geysir - Thingvellir
After our first night without darkness we started in direction to gullfoss. this is one of the nicest waterfalls in iceland. And he was really quite impressiv. then we drove on to the well known Geysir Strokkur. He explodes every few minutes and the water jumps about 20m in the air. Unfortunately, there where so many tourists and you had to look for a empty space to take your pictures.
It was so windy and cold that day that we first had to take some coffee. And in iceland there`s never a problem to find some good coffe!
A few kilometers further we came to the Thingvellir Nationalpark. That`s the place where in the year 930 the parlament of iceland was founded. Here you can see, like nowhere else in iceland, the rift between the Euopean an North American plates.
Then we drove to Borgarnes where we stayed for 2 nights.
