Firenze: Santo Spirito e Santa Maria del Fiore
May 22, 2006
Santo Spirito is a beautiful, yet simple church on the eastern side of the Arno. It was designed by Brunelleschi, the same architecht of the dome in Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as il Duomo. The center of the church has a beautiful nave. I wasn't able to take any photographs inside because there was a service going on and it wasn't allowed. However, we were lucky enough to be hanging out in the piazza in front of the church and this amazingly good looking guy was there. Me and the girls couldn't help ourselves, we took pictures! We tried to be discrete about it, we call him GQ guy, because he could totally have been in the magazine. I think he realized what we were doing because he sat on the stairs a bit down the way and sort of...posed for us...unbuttoned his shirt a little. It was an exciting day! We also went inside the Duomo, Santa Maria del Fiore, and climed to the top of the dome, saw Brunelleschi's tomb and the baptistry accross the way. The baptistry is beautiful with mosaics of Dante's hell, but it's dark and so it was quite hard to take pictures. All three of these sites are surely worth checking out if you're going to spend a lot of time in Florence!
