Stopover in Malpensa, Milano.
Ooooh that´s right... because of our budget. We could have done the trip in a 4 hour flight. Instead we saved ourselves a few euro with a stopover in Malpensa, Milan. We will never, ever do this again. Don´t get me wrong, Easyjet provides good value for your money. And to be fair, it saved us more than a few euro, 300 to be exact. And with their friendly service, Easyjet (what´s in a name, right?), is not all that bad, but the waiting in between flights is just horrid. We are spoilt, I know. At Schiphol Airport you´re able to shop like crazy, lounge, rest, whatever. But Malpensa, terminal 2, at Milan? Djeez, there is nothing to do but sit and wait, sit and wait. What time is it? Sit more and wait more.

For six hours! It just was too much. If we had known our way around Milan, then maybe, we´d taken a shot at Milan centre, 30 km away. We just weren´t sure if we could make it back on time. Only positive was we were really early for checking in our next flight, so we had our choice in seats.
Arriving at Catania Airport on Sicily we encountered a setback: we had planned to take the one and hour bus drive to Taormina. Landing at 17.00 hrs we estimated our arrival at our B&B to be around 19.00 hrs. Much did we know the busses don´t drive that regularly on Sundays. The next bus would be leaving around 19.45, that would make our arriving time 21.30 in the evening.
And more waiting at the airport. The ladies at the information point of Catania Airport were very helpful. Instead of waiting for the bus, we could take the bus to Catania center and from there take the train to Taormina, from where we could take a taxi up the mountain. We just about had it. We saved ourselves some money with the budget flight, right? What the heck, we´re not waiting around at an airport again, not today we´re not! We´re on Sicily, it´s the first day of our vacation, and we must enjoy it, right? Right! Thinking our situation over, eating a slice of pizza, we decided to splurge.... oooh thank you so much for taxidrivers, just waiting to drop you off at the doorstep. In three quarters of an hour no less! And well... if I say the amount really fast, without breathing, it might just not seems that big... We just spent one third of our we-fly-budget-for-a-reason-savings on a taxi drive. But yeah.... we are there!
