the old station in arnhem, 1960 Picture from the internet

The first train station in Arnhem was built in 1845. This because they needed a connection to the West side of Holland. There were the docks that were important for the trade. In the year 1937 the station was modernized. But unfortunately destroyed in the war. In 1951 they pull down the destroyed station. In the year 1954 they build a new station with a big lobby. There is also a train station at the Velperweg which was in operation in 1895. And we had in those days one in Presikhaaf.

But that was history, now we have to step into the future but this may take a while! The completion should have been this year, but thanks to a lot of problems the building is delayed for several years.

When you look up you see all the stairs you have to take.
This should have been a mega project. The only ugly things to be seen are the two big buildings, coloured blue and green. They do not fit in the surrounding and everyone in Arnhem hate those buildings. If you are a traveller you have to know that it is a struggle to leave the platform. Ok there is an elevator, somewhere in a corner. Otherwise you have to use the stairs. First go up, and than down again. And this is very nice if you have a suitcase with you. So hopefully they have money enough in Arnhem to finish this excavation. (i will search for better pictures, these are from the internet)

The busses which are located underneath the trainstation  to reach the main attractions.
