What an amazing time!...this was one of those moments you wish would never end!
After a delicious hearty dinner at the Majestic View Steakhouse we returned to our hotel rooms. Tracy and I were going to go for a dip in the Hot Tub then catch a nap before going to watch the meteor showers...well lets just say I passed out as soon as I layed on my bed but at least Tracy enjoyed a little hot tubbing!
I awoke in shock at around 1230 AM to BiG telling me that I had been asleep for almost 4 hours!! Ahhh! I quickly fixed my bed head and we were all off to watch the meteor showers!! I had created a special "Meteor Mix" for the occasion which included such artists as Ulrich Schnauss, Marcus Schulz, ATB, Global DeeJay's, Plumb, Armin Van Buren, Gabriel and Dresden...etc and couldn't wait to experience it with such cool people because I knew it was going to be a night I'd always remember!!
We decided to go further into the park because we couldn't get a clear view of the sky outside the park so off we went journeying into the night through winding mountain switchback roads and through tunnels blasted through solid rock right through the towering mountains! We ran across a family of Mule deer making their way across the dark street as we were crossing through the park.
Finally, we got to a nice clearing high up in elevation with a clear view of the Constellation Orion which is where we needed to look for the concentration of meteors streaking across the night sky. RJ was kind enough to let us all pile into the back of his pick up truck (a big sturdy Toyota Tundra) and I opened the liftback of my SUV so we could listen to the Meteor Mix as we gazed into the night sky hoping to be dazzled by the natural light show! Nih and RJ were first to spot some meteors then one by one we all let out ooohs and ahhhs in amazement as we each saw what we had been hoping to see. Conversations flowed as winding and deep as a river headed out to a vast sea...and so did the snacks! LOL....beef jerky, chips and salsa, cotton candy, black licorice and some exotic foreign chocolates that Nih had brought (don't remember the name but they were good!).
I was relieved to see that the group was enjoying the mix I had created for them...and the night marched on quickly! One by one the girls retreated into the vehicles to warm up and sleep, meanwhile Big, RJ, Nih and I huddled under blankets in the bed of RJ's Pick up determined to see more meteors. About 4am too many clouds had rolled in and we couldn't see much more of the night sky. Tired, cold but happy to have seen some amazing meteors streak across the sky and enjoy each other's company we headed back to our comfortable beds at the Lodge!
