Sakura Festival in New Zealand
September 19, 2009
The Sakura Festival is held in Palmerston North every September.
Palmerston North, a city of about 77,000 people has 4 universities and 11 research institutions. This has meant that Palmerston North has the highest number of PhD's per person of any city in New Zealand.
One of the universities is International Pacific College which is a Japanese university based in New Zealand.
Because of this each year when the cherry blossoms are out the Sakura Festival is celebrated with the University and the City cooperating together to put on a number of events.
The students from the University put on drumming and other traditional Japanese events to make it a cheerful spring event for the city.
As the events happen I will add some more photos.
