We departed Aruba in the early evening and as the plane leveled off at top cruising altitude I glanced out the window and my jaw dropped at the amazing view. The stunning sunset evoked images of the beginning of time and what the very first sunset may have been like. The seemingly endless expanse of low clouds beneath us was like a vast tundra. The horizon seemed to stretch on for eternity and the simple yet complex beauty of nature again took my breath away.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I am always excited to find out what will be seen from above during an average plane flight. Flying over the Italian Alps was one of my favorite sights...seeing them peak through the clouds was amazing. Manhattan from the sky is always thrilling and inspires awe seeing what man has built. How can so many huge buildings fit on one teeny island seemingly on top of each other? Or flying west and seeing the flat land suddenly drop into the deepest crevice I have ever seen, namely the Grand Canyon! And then noticing a beautiful river that I hurriedly snapped a picture of only to realize upon review that I had captured the Hoover Dam without even knowing it! Yes, an ordinary plane flight can turn into a thrilling photo op. Hence one of my mottos: Always have your camera ready!
