Athens Greece
David and I arrived at 11 AM at the Athens Airport.... Neither of us had slept and we were walking into walls we were so tired. One of the staff of Easycruise was waiting for us with a sign.... Hooray.... I have always wanted to be met at the airport with a sign... But it came out to not be so great because in our group of 27 there seemed to be quite a few stragglers.... we waited for various people using the restroom, visiting first aid and using the phone for about an hour.... OK.... the thrill is going....going .... gone on being met with a sign....
We got a short driving tour of the city of Athens and Pieraes. The guide, Giannis, was amazing with his knowledge of the two cities. We went past quite a few stadiums.... old and new. He seemed to know the dates and history of almost everything.... he didn't know if the American Embassy had a gift shop but it was an off the wall question from a blond (me).
At the Easy Cruise ship, our room didn't have a porthole... I looked at the closed room I knew that wouldn't work.... ( and I had paid extra in advance for a porthole.) ... The staff said we needed to provide the proof that we paid for the upgrade/ naturally I couldn't find it....... eventually they found the information and we got a nice but simple room. The cruise line was started by the same gentleman who began easyjet. So it wasn't designed as a luxury cruise... It's basically a floating hotel that doesn't have banquets or midnight buffets. There is no entertainment... But the concept fits our idea of travel.... Sleep in the room and go explore during the day.... The cruise covers the ancient sites: Corinth, Mycenea, Olympia, Delphi and Epidarus. We didn't sign up for the tours as we thought we would enjoy doing it on our own more....
We attended a talk about Mycenea. We were so jet lagged I was embarassed to find I started nodding out when the speaker began. Thinking quickly I stood up and leaned against the wall.... Yeah,.... It worked for about 5 minutes then I went to sleep standing up.... I jerked awake and we decided we would eat and go to bed. The dinner was nothing to write home about... (Mom/Dad/Valerie?Angela ... sorry ... you can't read the previous sentence) We were in bed by 8 PM.... And asleep at 8:01 PM....
