Aires Rock Trek - funny creature!!

We spent the first day very tired after another early flight.  We leisurely explored Alice Springs, ate hot cross buns and relaxed.  It isn't humid here which makes such a change compared to what we have had to cope with the last month.  We are loving the dry heat!!

Our main reason for visiting Alice Springs was to do a trek to Ayers Rock.  We did a three day trek. First day we visited Kings Canyon.  We did a trek up the canyon, including hiking up a hill called heart attack hill and stopping for luch at the garden of Eden.  The bush has so many flies it is unbelieveable!!  They disappear at night which is really lucky as we spent both nights of the trip in the middle of the busgh sleeping in swags.

these are big canvas sleeping bags which you then put your sleeping bag into.  It was amazing to be in bed looking up at the stars.  We slept around the campfire which I was hoping would scare the snakes away!! On the second day we visited the Olgas and spent the afternoon at Ayers Rock.  We followed this my watching the sunset at the rock.  On the third day we were up even earlier than the previous day.  It was a 5-20am start to make it to Ayers Rock for a 9km hike as the sunrose.  Not many times I've walked this far before 9am and breakfast.  As you can imagine brekkie went down a treat!!  We then visited the cultural centre and began our 400km journey back to the hostel.
