We arrived in Cusco very tired after two flights to get there from Buenos Aires. We had gone from almost sea level in Buenos Aires to about 3000meter above sea level in Cusco. The change in altitude definitley showed. The steps up to our hostel, Loki hostel were a real killer in the first few days.
Cusco is an absolutley beautiful place. It is very touristy because it is where everyone stays to do the Inca Trail but didn't only seemed to enhance the atmosphere of the place. We spent a lot of our time wandering the shops and markets. Then on day 3 began the Inca Trail...
The Inca trail took 4 days and we spent the day before in a porters village. It was an amazing experience and definitely harder than we expected. Day two was a killer!! The added bonus of food poisoning in the final couple of days made it a little harder also. Seeing the sun rise over Machu Picchu from the sungate on the last day was incredible and full of emotion. The 4 day trek to get there definitely seemed worth it when we reached the end.
After the Inca trail we spent our last few days in Cusco relaxing and shopping. Peru and Cusco are definitely one of my favourite places so far. I really hope I get a chance to return one day.
