The bright lights of Hong Kong

We arrived in Hong Kong very tired after a 13 hour flight from Johannesburg.  It has taken three days to get here.  Saturday we travelled from Otjikondo to Windhoek. On Sunday (Happy Mothers Day mum!!) we flew from Windhoek to Johannesburg. Then on Monday/Tuesday we flew from Johannesburg to Hong Kong.  We saw the South African Commenwealth Games South African team when we arrived at Jo'burg and flew on the same flight to Hong Kong as the South African Hong Kong 7s rugby team!!

Hong Kong is such a contrast from Namibia and what we had been used to for the past couple of weeks. It was brilliant to see the bright lights and the buzz of the city.

On the first day we spent the day finding our feet and exploring.  There is more shops here than you can imagine and the buildings are massive.

We had dinner on the 13th floor of a tall shopping center with the top few levels (called the Ozone) as places to eat. Then we wandered the markets at night and walked down to the waterfront at Kowloon to see the view across the water of Hong kong island at night.  This was amazing.

On the second day we took the ferry to Hong Kong island and then the tram up to the top of Victoria Peak.  Then we spent the afternoon on the island of Cheung Chang as recommended by my Aunty Pauline.  Aunty Pauline also recommended that we went first class on the ferry because it was about 1 pound instead of 50p.  So we did, unfortunetly so did about 300 school children!! In the evening we treated ourselves at a posh restaurant on the waterfront and then went back to the ozone for drinks.

On day three we made the most of our last few hours in Hong Kong. We visited Kowloon Park and wrote postcards in the sun. Then we wandered around the shops. Soon the time disappeared and we were on our way to the airport. We flew at 6:40pm.
