Very early in the morning, very early, Sarah came in and woke me up. She was getting up to get the bus to head towards Panama. I had asked her to wake me up before she left so we could say goodbye properly seeing as I may have been slightly drunk last night when I got back from the pizza party.
Unfortunately being woken up at half 4 in the morning is not a fun situation to be in especially when you were only asleep for the better part of an hour or two. Then again, at least I knew I could fall straight back asleep once her bus arrived at half 5!
I always hate goodbyes, especially when it is people you knew well but we both agreed that we would see each other again next year. I have said that to many people but it has only happened with the minority so far.
I didn't do much else for the day although we did clean up the station house as Sarah's replacement would be arriving at some point today.
When Stephany showed up it was already dark. She seemed lovely although very quiet.
After dinner a French girl showed up in our doorway looking for someone. She had only arrived on the evening bus and was meant to be met by someone who failed to show. This is when I had one of my greatest moments.
For the past few weeks, whether it was here in Costa Rica, in Atlanta or over in Kyrgyzstan, people have seemed to be struggling with my accent. They also did not shy away from making fun of the way I pronounce certain words, in particular thirty three and a third.
This is why, when I met this lovely French girl, not only did she not make fun of my rubbish french but she said that my accent was one of the most clear and easily understandable english speaking accents she has heard.
Now she may have just been saying this as I was being nice and helping her out when she was in need but I choose to believe that such a lovely girl was being completely sincere when she said this. She was going to be spending the next few weeks volunteering on the bird progect just down the road.
