Basking In The Shadow Of A Giant

The directions I had to the hostel were to turn left from the bus station and head in the direction of Arenal. Follow the road a few blocks until you see the big sign for the hostel and there it is.
Now, a town this close to the volcano ought to have a good view of it. So when I was stood on the road looking for the giant of Arenal and could not see it I became concerned but chose to walk up the left as that seemed to be where the most mountains were. After 5 or 10 mins of walking I eventually came to the hostel but somehow I could not as yet see the volcano until just then the clouds shifted to reveal the smoking giant behind it's veil.
Luckily I made it just in time to book myself onto one of the tours that walk along some of the volcano through the forest and then go on further to see the lava flowing from the volcano cone once the it begins to get dark.
On the way back from the lava show I stopped off at Tabacon Hot Springs to enjoy a little over indulgence. I am normally not into all this spa treatment stuff but I was told that the springs were simply beautiful enough to enjoy and besides...it has two bars inside. The dinner was quite nice and better yet I bumped into Roberto & Elena who I had not spoken to since they left Punta Banco. It was nice. It was enjoyable. Definitely not my type of thing. Perhaps it would have been better had I had someone to share the experience with...maybe next time.
Back in the hostel I found out that I had a great crowd to share my room with so we had a few beers. Most of them were off in search of some giant nightclub nearby but I thought I would be a good boy and give it a miss as I had the jeep-boat-jeep trip to Monteverde the next morning. I got talking to one guy called Mike who said he would be heading in that direction soon so we said we'd try to meet up if he does.
