Watching the sunset on the shores of Tuscany.

I thought about writing this little reflection one easy Saturday morning over coffee. I was standing by the window looking out the window in awe of the bright orange morning sun that was slowly peeking through the dark night clouds making the red roofs of houses that surrounds me glimmer with the morning dew. As I took another sip, I realized that this was an unfamiliar view of what I wake up to in my own home. I’ve guess I never fully digested it having travelled a majority of this year that I am waking up in a new land. I guess with the hustle and bustle of traveling, you sometimes forget that you are standing on unfamiliar grounds. Even though I take photos of places I’ve been and always excited to go, I never fully comprehended how strange it is that I am waking up in a totally different city this morning. Although following the same routine, nothing is ever the same. I held a coffee in my hand yet its flavor is different. I will walk out of this hotel and I will be greeted with different faces. I will go into the office and be wished a good day in a different language. How truly strange it is that I never accounted for any of that in my many travels. Part of travel is experiencing that moment where everything is new and learning about the wide world that is all around us. I guess one can lose control of all of that openness when pre-occupied with other agendas. So how does one break that bad cycle? I don’t know what I am capable of. There had been moments when even I surprised myself of the things I can do. I decided from this moment on that I will enjoy that sip of coffee longer…the lager at dinner…savour each exploding flavour of food in my mouth than rushing because I have other things to do. Taking that moment, as they say, “stop and smell the flowers”. So, as prepare myself en route to my next destination, I sit here and reflect on the many blessings that had been bestowed upon me with my travels. I can say “Yesterday I was in Russia…who knew I’d wake up in Italy this morning.” I had been safe and healthy through all this travel and I hope that the others will be the same. Many people can probably say the same things about what I can about my life as a road warrior, but I can say that I experienced the road…
