Go to Dieng early in the morning before the fog cover the area and you’ll see beautiful scenery. When we arrived there, I guide approached us and offered to guide us. Always take a guide when you go to the craters, cause there are no fences and some spots have thin soil with magma under it. This guide told us the history of Dieng and showed us the craters with boiling magma. Stay out of the wind cause it smells really bad and it’s also bad for your health. He showed us photo’s of local corpses fished out from the craters. Mostly women doing suicide because of their broken heart. Very lugubrious, we didn’t want to see that!
Then he took us to the temples. In one of the temples he spoke a mantra and asked us to repeat him, then followed him walk three times around the temple clockwise without making any sound and without smiling. Now we’re blessed. Well, okay, I hope he’s telling the truth and not that we’ll turn into bats tonight.. lol
As we walked to the lake we passed a cave. A man dressed in traditional Javanese clothes was sitting in front of the cave. He didn’t speak Indonesian. The guide told us that he’s taking a break from his meditation, he’s been meditating for over a month now without eating or drinking (either you believe it or you don’t). When we reached the lake we thanked the guide and enjoyed the view..
