Not Exactly a Travel Blog
I had it all planned out. Every detail of how I was going to spend my Summer. But a completely different story unfolded. My son was in a near fatal car accident and life as we knew it came to a screeching halt. The hospital sent him home and said he was okay. In less than 48 hours, he almost died at home. We got him to another hospital who performed emergency surgery. His intestines had ruptured and he was septic (toxic). Two feet of his intestines had to be removed. He was in ICU a few days, then was moved to a private room. Shortly after, they found a bad infection beneath the wound, internally. The staples had to be removed and he now had an open wound. That complicated everything. Recovery time would be much longer than anticipated. The wound had to be changed and packed a few times a day at first.
After days of that, fluid was found to be building up around the wound in three different places. Another procedure had to be done. He was in the hospital for weeks. The only place I actually traveled to was our house every now and then. I stayed at the hospital with him. When he was released to come home, he still had to have Home Health Care come out three times a week. He was just released from the doctor last Monday. The wound is completely closed now. He still is not able to do things like he used to. It will be a slow, careful recovery. It is a miracle that he is alive! I am so thankful! But wait ~~ that's not all!
We were only home for a short time when we were hit with Hurricanes Gustav and Ike back to back, just a few days apart.
Our traveling consisted of evacuation and returning home ~ twice. We were without electricity both times. Our electricity had just been back on for two days and then Ike came and knocked it out again. The whole thing was a nightmare! My son really suffered. He was miserable. I felt so bad for him. But, by the grace of God we made it through! This is only the short version of all that happend this Summer. I could have written a book! Because of all that happened, I have missed a lot of work and that has put me in a financial bind. I'm not sure when I'll be able to make another trip, but I am determined to get back on track very soon.
It's good to be back on TB. It's been a long time and I miss talking to everyone. I will do my best to catch up on comments and messages. I have pictures to put up from the hurricanes and I promise to do that as soon as I can.
Blessings to all!
