the pyramid shaped mountain

Valley of the Kings is a valley full of tombs. The mountain next to the valley has a shape like a pyramid. Experts think this is why many kings chose this spot to be buried. Archeologists are still working there on renovations and excavations. There’s no heavy material working there, all is done by hand. There’s no problem to find workers, there are many people without jobs and the wages are low. I think people are also cheaper than material cause they are mixing cement and sand with their hands even though mortar is aggressive to skin.

There are several tombs that we may visit. To visit the tomb of Tutankhamen you have to pay an additional fee. Our guide said it’s strongly forbidden to take photos in the tombs, you’ll be turned over to the police if you do that. Light may have negative effect on the colours.

It’s beautiful inside the tombs. I thought, I had a new digital camera with a museum function on it, so I can take pictures without flash. So carefully I tried it. Suddenly “flash!”, I did it wrong. Two guards saw the flash and came hurrying from the entrance towards me. Whoops! I hid my camera and walked to the entrance/exit. Luckily there was a group of tourists also coming in, so the guards couldn’t move fast. I passed them and they didn’t know it was me. Outside I went directly into another tomb. Wow, that was close...

Lads, what's the story with the additional "museum" function?! Try just disabling the flash. Usually that helps, along with a tripod as well ...

Well, we do kind of have a Dutch proverb for that, don't we? So I guess even a stolen snapshot does not pay off ;o) Shame though...
