Whale in sight!

Guanacos

We booked a tour from Puerto Madryn. Expensive for our budget, but worth it. On the peninsula we saw pinguins, sea elephants, sea lions, an armadillo, a fox, many guanacos (lama-relative) and many choiques (ostrich-relative).

At noon the boat departed for whale watching. We've been told that the whale season is over. Most of the whales, especially the bulls (male whale) have left to the south. There was still a chance though that we could see a cow (female whale) and her calf, but don't expect too much. It was windy, cold wind from the west, but the sea was really calm.

We sailed for 10 minutes and we were lucky, we spotted a whale in the horizon. Ow, owesome!! Everybody took their camera's and made pictures of the whale in the distance. Later on another whale and another. All the whales were cows with a calf. We made so many photo's of those two whales from a distance that the photocamera got full and the battery of my videocamera was empty. But we kept on seeing whales, the next ones were very close, so close you can almost touch them. So, we quickly deleted the last photo's to be able to make better photo's. There were whales everywhere!! I think we saw at least 16 whales that day! What a great experience!!
