window-shopping on fifth avenue
Wednesday morning was our time to relax and recover from yesterday's flight. David Letterman's Late Show starts taping around 4:00pm on Fifth Avenue between 53rd and 54th streets.  Our hotel was on Seventh Avenue and 33rd Street about 2 miles away so we decided to walk up Fifth Avenue, do a little window shopping and people-watching, eat lunch at Rupert Jee's Hello Deli then join the line of audience members who had been invited to attend the taping.

We enjoyed the late show taping especially the performances by Paul Shaffer's band and guest guitarist Buddy Guy. Dennis Quaid and a canadian actress were also guests but I especially enjoyed Letterman's comedic barbs against John McCain who was a "no-show" on Letterman's programme the previous week and had lied to Letterman about having to return to Washington that night. In fact McCain had attended an interview with CBS news anchor Katie Couric instead of his promised guest-spot on Letterman and he had spent the night in New York not Washington.

Afte the Letterman show we walked home through Times Square and back down Fifth Avenue
