New York, New York

Another month in my shoes:
Just another day in my life of shifting sands. Ghosting my way across this planet without a moment to breathe. Here one day, gone the next. Then…
In a blur of transits, meeting rooms, aeroplanes, security checkpoints and hotels… I unexpectedly found one of the rarest commodities. A place where I could see myself unpacking my suitcase for a while.
New York, New York.
Two days lost in a colossal city, where concrete spires tower into the sky, where by day, anonymous faces crowd city streets amidst every possible alternative for food, fashion, work and play.
Later, by an Upper West Side Manhattan night, I found the city transformed. Leaving a frosty city street, I descended into a subterranean bar come music hall, accompanied by a local friend. The sort of place a tourist would never know. In the gloom, to the beat of the drum, I saw strangers drop their masks and join in unison to simply be. Shallow cliques melted into one sea of free faces. All pretences, titles, shadows and cares checked at the door. I started the night in the company of my colleagues and by the end of the night, in the company of new friends…
Although half a world away, although only known over two fleeting days, I know it to be a place for me. A place where both sides of my spirit could co-exist.
And as this plane spirits me to Asia, back to the coalface of my creation, my thoughts are still there.
