Shopping malls as far as the eye can see...

Getting to Singapore was a bit strange after my time in Malaysia. My first impression after leaving the border station was from the bus station. So crammed with people hurrying along.... and I did`nt see much smiling going on either, much like any European major city...
The prices were also quite horrible. I knew it would be bad but it was even worse. My major expences was for my few daily beers. Even from a shop the price was like 4-5€ for a can of beer. In the clubs it was like 8-10€ for a small beer. It`s actually more expensive than in Norway, and that takes a lot...a lot.
I followed my Lonely planet travel bible and went staright to the first place on the list ; Cozy backpackers Inn. I stayed in the dorm there for about 8€ (12 SD) , which is no doubt the cheapest accomodation in the town.
On the following days I wandered around the city trying to ge to know her. It took a lot of time before I became street-smart, as it has a very confusing layout. The shopping malls are just everywhere ! never seen more shopping malls ! I did do a bit of shopping too....
Bought a laptop on a whim. I just bought it because I knew it would cost 3 times more in Norway, so I though I could take it home and make a profit. It was`nt a machine for me, it was a corporate machine made to be indestructable. 1,2 kg , Panasonic Toughbook! costed 1200€!
I got cold feets after beeing the owner for some hours, as I realized that this was`nt a very popular machine anywhere.
I got to know a local in the hostel where I stayed, and we went out on the saturday night. That was pretty good, as he knew where to go. Of course we went to Calms Quai, which is the place to go out in Singapore. Amazing view of the city there at night time !
He had a club card at some private club! that was amazing ! Cabarets all night ! a lot of dancing girls, and singing, and prancing about. That was so fun to see, but we had to leave after an hour as he felt a bit bad about us not drinking there because the drinks where just crazy expensive (22-25 SD)
Most the places at Calms Quai costs like 15-20 SD just to get in, and the larger clubs at other parts of the city(like Zouk) can cost 30-45 SD...which is pretty crazy.
We went to the only really cool place with no cover charge - China one bar. That was cool, but super extremely crowded. The Live band was really good ! This place is probably like all the places here, crawing with typical expats running around with the company credit cards buying drinks for the girls.....
As for sightseeing there is a pretty limited amount of places worth seeing. The park is quite nice, walking aroun in Chinatown is cool. Dining in Little India....spending a day at Sentosa Island, where there is actually some beaches!
The last 2 days i stayed with my expat buddy Arild....He lived far away from the city, so I just hung around the compound pool all day...pretty nice if it had`nt been raining..
