9 days in French Polynesia in July 2008. Went to Moorea, Bora Bora and Tahiti.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

It's an hour flight from Moorea to Bora Bora but that includes a brief passenger pickup at the island of Raiatea. We landed in Bora Bora and the staff from the St. Regis hotel gathered our luggage and directed us to the boat that would take us to the resort. As we made our way across the lagoon, I was captivated by the color of the water. It was an indescribable color of blue. I live in Hawaii so I am familiar with the beauty of the tropics, but the water in Bora Bora just blew me away.

I stayed at the St. Regis Bora Bora for 5 nights in August 2008. We had a premium over the water bungalow that offered fantastic views of the lagoon. Each bunglow has its own private deck with an outdoor dining table, lounge chairs and a lower platform that leads into the water.

The living room has a viewing window on the floor so you can see the sea life under the bungalow. Unfortunately there aren't any coral reefs in the Bora Bora lagoon, thus there really aren't any tropical fish that swim under the bungalow. During my stay, the only thing I saw swimming under the bungalow was a manta ray.

The St. Regis hotel is expensive, but then again, so are the majority of resorts in French Polynesia. But they do everything possible to earn their reputation - service is great, food is great, amenities are great, etc...

I think the room was around $1200/day. After a while, you just forget about how much it costs and just go with the moment.
