the lack of updates is symbolic of the lack of activities. christchurch is a bit dead in winter. and being poor makes going out a little difficult. kara, rachel and i usually just spend the evenings hanging around the flat watching bad NZ television or syndicated American television. no matter where you are, one can always find Friends on TV.
i meet my new flatmates/workmates tonight. kara and rachel are heading back up to Auckland today, then back to the promise land tomorrow.
i've been slowly starting to plan my southeast asian adventures. why is Brunei so damn expensive? i'm looking to head out october/november. i think i've settled on two volunteer projects, one in Sri Lanka and one in Cambodia.
anywho, here's some pictures from our last "outting" in christchurch together. kara is quite a big fan of Harry Potter, so we went to the premier this past wednesday (i fell asleep briefly...it's a REALLY long movie), then out on the (deserted) town. down south, around 9-10pm there was a big earthquake off the shore. it would probably explain the weird rocking movement i felt during the movie, which i originally wrote off as vibrations from the sound system or random dizziness. the quake was a 7.8, but thankfully no one was hurt. apparantly, for about an hour, there was a tsunami warning, but it was downgraded and everything was fine. but that was the biggest quake the area has had since the '30s.
