fountain outside the museum in the botanical gardens

Christchurch International Airport is the smallest airport I've ever been to (and it was the shortest flight I'd ever been on...1 hour 20 mins).

There's so many cute little cafes around town surrounded by old gothic buildings (and horrendously modern ones). I got salmon on a bagel for lunch at this place sandwhiched into the Art Gallery. Seafood for lunch and seafood for it. The weather has been fantastically sunny. I started the day off with a much needed haircut. A couple inches lighter, I headed to Cathedral Square (Starbucks coffee in hand), and sat outside the church readin (appropriately) A History of God. Jaunting around the little stands of jewelry and clothing I got a small ring which is just a simple band of flowers and talked to the guy selling them about travelling and finding work.

This town is so fantastic! The Botanic Gardens are a nice walk, the parks are a relaxing place to chill out and read (and eat fish and chips), and the Square is the perfect place to people watch (and chess watch). Christchurch is a perfect "extended weekend" town. Not sure I could live there...well, maybe in the summer I'd consider it because I'm sure there'd be a lot of activity going on in the square, and the beach is not far off. In the winter it may be a little too dead. But it's on my list! Will definitely try to visit it again if time permits later on. I hope to be able to take time off again at the end of the trip before...well before whatever it is I do after this... But January may be devoted to SE Asia...we'll see....I'm very idealistic right now.
