the three Americans that hold Vagabond together

so, despite it being winter, me and my fellow American flatmates decided to celebrate the traditionally summer holiday of July 4th. With the help of one of the hostel ownders, we headed up to Pak-n-Sav to buy our supplies...burgers! pasta salad! chips! soda! (I bought booze, of course) and we had homemade potato and chocolate bread from the dreaded breadmakers we use here at Vagabond. At the liquor store I explained the American holiday to the cashier as I bought wine, Amaretto, and sour mix. A BBQ in winter? Well, it's just not July 4th without a BBQ. Luckily the rain held out and it wasn't too cold...but still worthy of long sleeves.

It turned out to be a feast for the masses... I haven't had a proper meal (which includes protein) in quite some time... so cheeseburgers were really exciting! :) Although the actual day of the 4th lacked the American apple pie...we did enjoy a frozen apple pie the next day (which would technically be the 4th back in the States) over beer and teaching one of my flatmates the joys of poker...with money from the New Zealand edition of Monopoly.

Tomorrow morning I have an interview at the Christchurch Casino. I forgot I applied there, so I have no idea what I actually applied for...but I got a call from them yesterday. I've never even been to a casino in NZ yet. It could be an interesting job... my experience at casinos is all about taking advantage of the free liquor...
