It's so lovely to see that there's still a country that hasn't been swallowed by retatively regurgitated subdivisions and suburban sprawl.
I can see the lake from my room. Hard to believe you can get this view for only $24NZD. Although I feel broke I feel pretty lucky. At night I get to sleep in a room full of people, all of us from different countries. It's amazing that so many different people from different lives can all come together and communicate and share experiences together. The hostel tonight, "Lakefront Lodge" really does feel like the name suggests. Slanted ceilings, a fire place, a BBQ and picnic area, and the lake just outside in its lovely mineral blue hue. All the dorms have sliding doors that lead to the BBQ area deck. Thank goodness the lodge is warm and nice, as Lake Tekapo is literally a one-block town...
I went horseback riding this late afternoon. Up a trail into the woods, uphill to an openning where all of a sudden beautiful Lake Tekapo is right there! and the whole ride back is along the coast of the lake. Horses are amazingly beautiful and strong...and they can poop and walk simultaneously...that's talent. Frank was my horse, an all black one.
What a surreal experience to be meeting so many different people from so many places...and how embarassing to be an American...but I say I'm from New York when people ask...I don't ever say the States, haha.
