Smiling pretty in front of Pinkberry...having a healthy dose of soft serve before lunch...

A quick shoot through the Disney Music Hall and its eclectic collection of statues and ornaments on its garden top and off we went to Pinkberry for some soft serve in japantown. truth be told cant really beat the softserve in japan, but the original flavor actually seemed the best flavor...the macha flavor tasted like it was mixed into the original, proving too sweet...macha should be rich and slightly dry.

While waiting for a table at Diakokuya, we slipped into the otaku store next door, perousing the goth-lo dresses and neko no mimi.  we even had time to walk across the street and grab a half dozen curry pan from the Curry house.  quite frankly the curry pan to go is better than the entire menu combined.  biting into the pan, i remembered why i liked them so much, nearly burnt half my face off...we made it back just in time for our table to be given away...hahaha, but we are promptly given the next available table...

Dirty shoyu flavor...with the milkiness of a tonkatsu flavor, but without the rich and savoury aftertaste...strange hahaha...the temperature of the broth was not boiling hot, -1 point right there.  the chashu was well made, but a tad thinly sliced.  For a medium bodied milky broth, one really ought to serve thick slices to overbear and contrast the synergy of the soup and other garnish ingredients, rather than complement them.  The chahan was quite good though...didnt smell perfect, but tasted really good, an A- at worse.  the gyoza looked like they were homemade, didnt look like gyoza, didnt feel like gyoza (they are rectangular and not pot-sticker shaped), but damn do they taste like gyoza...garlic flavoured and slightly sour...really good stuff...

...ran away at 3:30 and arrived back in SD by 5:30, just in time for dinner at a local new mexican restaurant...still full from breakfast and ramen, i went for 2 fish tacos...cant seem to really get away from prefab battered fish for tacos...they merited no more than a C for being tacos and having fish in them.  I think the food at Tortilla Joe's might have been better...actually im quite sure of it.  We opted for this place instead of a Turkish restaurant downtown as we were running out of time...sigh...next time.  Next time you'll get em BiG!!

My first TB run around the block was really fun.  I would definitely recommend getting lost in a city you hate, mis-scheduling ur meeting date, then waking up at 5:00am and running running running until the sun goes down.  So many things checked off my list...so Happy Happy Happy!!!
