Beauty & the Beast...
Ok, so i havent seen K in almost a decade, and she rolls into Anaheim for the weekend, so i make the best of efforts to ignore my hate of LA and meet up with her. Currently she resides in Quebec, otherwise known as French Canada, otherwise know as "Oui Oui Oui, Non Non Non." We've been meaning to get together, but Quebec and California is just about as bad as it can get hahahha. So off we head to Anaheim from San Deigo, our entry to SoCal...at 5:00am...on 4 hours of sleep. Its hard being a good friend sometimes hahahaha!!!
As we roll into Anaheim, i realize that we dont even have their room number at the motel that they are staying at.
Big gives a lovely lady a black rose...its a good thing her husband is such a good sport. Giggity Giggity Giggity Goo!! (No, i am crying...sigh)
We decide that, since its 7:00am, that we buzz the motel and ask at the desk if our friends are there. We DID try to call ahead and ask, but all attempts to assertain such information ended with more engrish than i was able to wade through..."All your base are belong to me" was pretty much the reply. Jim used his Google Maps GPS navigator on his Blackberry to locate the motel, and i marvelled at its usefulness, before he suggested to me that i ought to install it on my Blackberry...well will wonders never cease. It really is helpful...hahaha!!!
As it turned out, the motel staff was not anymore helpful in person than he was over the phone, so we called and called and called the number given to us as a contact number, and just as we were about to give up and head out, they picked up the phone.
Alexi (on the left) was the half naked French Canadian boy who answered the door to 204.
..Yippee!! Truth turned out that they thought it was their alarm, and were frustratedly trying to turn the ringing phone off all morning...Zing!! They tell us to come on up to 204, so we hop on up and knock on the door, only for it to be answered by a half asleep, half naked young boy (in his early 20's)...speaking french...! Things dont go well here, but after a few minutes of trying to talk to him, the door down the hallway at 207 opens, and out pops our friend's head...oops, hahahaha!!! Luckily for us, 204 were her friends, and in her dullen morning glory, had given us the wrong room number...perfect!!
Exchanging hugs and kisses, we enter her motel room, to find her husband combing his full length hair in his whities in front of the mirror.
Potatoe Pancakes w/Applesauce @ Gustav's Jaegerhaus, Anaheim, CA
Its turning out to be a very friendly day hahahaha. After the taking of many pictures and the regaling of many epics and stories of the years apart, we decide to get some breakfast before heading in our respective directions. So i Yelp some local candidates for early morning munchies, and out pops Jagerhaus...except one reveiwer mentioned that it was French cuisine...to be expected really from Yelp hahaha. We follow the GPS around for 10 minutes, riding on highways and byways and streets, only to end up in a residential block...apparently the GPS doesnt know what BALL street is, so it sent us to BELL...perfect...did i mention that i hate LA? Actually, when we reinput the address of the restaurant, a little green arrow popped up on the map, even though it was unlabeled.
Eggs & Cornedbeef Hash @ Gustav's Jaegerhaus, Anaheim, CA
..so we follow it around the corner, and bam: Gustav's Jagerhaus...definitely not French. And just to be sure, its not Heinrich's Jagerhaus, or even Franz's Jagerhaus...hahaha!!! Its GUSTAV'S Jagerhaus.
This place looks less awesome than you might expect to find, looks more like a restaurant meant for old people than a full on mountain lodge motif, but there are numerous antiques and paraphernalia suggesting a German flavour. I love this menu...no where else can you see Two Large Eggs (any style) home fries, Toast and Jelly "with" New York Steak...where else can you go to get eggs, with steak on the side...hahaha!!!
Knowing that i'll me eating the whole day, i opt for the Potatoe Pancakes, which i rate very highly. They are uber rich and savoury, not too hot to the tongue (ねぢじた).
There was much rejoicing with the regaling of tales from Big's life hahahaha...
My friends order a handfull of random plates, including Cornedbeef Hash, and a side of "home Made Jagerhaus Sausage Patties." The sausage patties have a lot of succulent flavour, smoky nose, dry to the touch, but turns your whole mouth into happy ^^. Bite after bit, alternating between the pancakes and the sausage...my face is starting to hurt from the smiling and grining and the rolling of my eyes into the back of my head. Good choice to start off the day, truely the Breakfast of Champions.
Before we leave, i duck into the men's room to freshen up, and what is there sitting in the bathroom stall, but a large, comfortable, wooden chair...hahahahaha!!! Its in the corner, facing the toilet. Just in case the guy "on deck" wants to wait it out?! Hahaha!!! Pure culinary bliss and free entertainment...im starting to like LA...a lot!!!
