I was picked to go on detachment to El Centro in CA. Well out of the 10 days there I was only in El Centro for 3. The rest was spent on the big open road.

San Diego.

I'd heard so many nice things about San Diego before I found out we were going there for the weekend. We left El Centro at about lunch time and aimed to get to San D 2 hours later. Of course, this wouldn't be the case. We did all right until we got into the city and realised that no one actually knew where our hotel was. All we knew was that we were staying at the Embassy Suites. I remembered someone saying that it was in San Diego Bay but we still didn't know where that was so we ended up getting there 2 hours late and a whole hour later than the guys that left well after we did.
After settling in in my lovely suite I went down to the bar for the free drinks and to meet everyone else. After one margarita I realised that I wasn't feeling too good and didn't fancy going on a huge bender.
I went back to my room early and ordered room service.
The next day I met up with some of the guys in the lobby. The plan was to go to the nearby Navy base to do some shopping. I wasn't interested in this so me, Justin, Steve and Gareth thought we'd take a walk down to check out the USS Midway which was only round the corner. It's HUGE! It had a crew of 4500!! We spent a few hours on there taking it all in.
That night everyone seemed to want to go out to the gaslamp to get hammered again but I couldn't be bothered.
While in El Centro I had bumped into an old friend who is a big baseball fan and he told me that there were games on all weekend and that I really should go. It's something that has always appealed to me and after throwing the idea around only one other guy was interested so we left the others to go do their thing and we went to do ours.
We got really good seats quite close to the front and opposite the score board and after a trip round the shop to buy caps and big, pink foam hands, beers and hot dogs we settled in to what became a very entertaining 3 hours. We had a really good laugh as we tried to understand exactly what was going on. San Diego won the game and the crowd went wild. It took us a while until we actually realised. When we got back to the hotel we popped to the bar for a couple of night caps. I think the barman was being generous with the measures as I only had a couple but was quite giggly by the time I went to bed.

Some great pics of the Midway! I'm surprised you were allowed to wield your camera :)
